Junior Pan Pacific Championships: Team USA Sweeps Open Water 10K Events; Becca Mann Wins Third Title

2012usopen Rebecca Mann wins the 1500 freestyle at the 2012 US Open in Indianapolis.

HONOLULU, Hawaii, August 27. THE 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Championships officially came to a close with the open water 10Ks this morning in Hawaii. Team USA swept both events, with budding star Becca Mann, 14, earning her second victory of the meet. 

After taking second to Leah Smith in the women's 800 free, 8:28.01 to 8:28.79, Mann was on fire the rest of the meet. She captured the women's 400 IM title in a meet-record time of 4:39.76, before winning the women's 1500 free in a 13-14 U.S. National Age Group record time of 16:11.89. She also won the B final of the 400 free with a 4:11.54.Mann's time in the 1500 free downed the 28-year-old national age group record of Michele Richardson (16:12.57) set back in 1984. 

Today, Mann blitzed the open water field for her third individual event triumph of the meet with a 1:57:22. Australia's Emily Seymour placed second in 1:57:40, while USA's Rachel Zilinskas took third in 1:57:54. 


David Heron dominated the men's 10K, en route to a victorious time of 1:42:01, while Canada's Zachary Burns placed second in 1:42:24. USA picked up a 1-3 finish when Janardan Burns took third with a 1:42:57.
